HOW IT'S MADE?
Cellulose
Cellulose is the main component of plant cell walls and also the most common organic compound in the world. What gives plants stability forms the basis for our biodegradable glitter. We use cellulose from eucalyptus for this purpose. It creates the transparent material from which our glitter is later made.
MINERALS
For the various vibrant colors of our Bioglitter, we use natural and synthetic minerals and pigments, process them into powder, and mix them with resin before applying them to the cellulose film.
NATURHARZ
To avoid synthetic adhesives, we currently use shellac—a natural resin. Shellac is not always vegan yet. But stay tuned: very soon, all our BioGlitter products will be vegan thanks to a new formula.

For us, biodegradable glitter is plastic-free and biodegradable in accordance with the EU Microplastics Regulation. It may enter wastewater without causing any harm to the environment.
Our BIRKENSPANNER biodegradable glitter meets these requirements and is certified in accordance with EU Regulation 2023/55. It is made from cellulose sourced from European eucalyptus plantations, as well as natural minerals and pigments for coloring.
To fix the colors onto the cellulose film, we use natural resin (shellac).
Since the EU microplastics ban, conventional plastic glitter may no longer be newly placed on the market in the EU. Although remaining stocks may still be sold, plastic glitter will ultimately become a thing of the past.
Conventional glitter usually consists of tiny plastic particles that enter the environment as microplastics after use. Once released, these particles remain for many years and pollute waterways, soils, and natural habitats.
